Friendly Fox decided (but barely thought it through)
To throw a lavish party, for every fox he knew!
They came along in droves, and very soon they had
Spilled into the garden, but Friendly Fox was glad
That everyone invited (plus some who tagged along)
Were able, all, to make it, and form a happy throng.
They came from every country where foxes may be found;
Chattering and singing, they made a joyful sound.
Arctic Fox, Hoary Fox and Grey Fox were all there.
Little Fennec Fox came too, bringing his own chair!
Bengal Fox and Bat-Eared Fox both arrived together,
While Pampas Fox and Island Fox talked about the weather.
But others (uninvited guests) also came that night,
Like Jackal and Coyote, spoiling for a fight!
Drinks were flowing freely, and all were having fun,
Till Blanford's Fox cried out in fright, "Look out! He's got a gun!"
Yes, Jackal had a pistol, and waved it in the air.
Foxes here... foxes there... foxes running everywhere!
But Cape Fox had seen Jackal load the gun with water!
And so he grabbed him by the arm and told him that he oughta
Hand the gun (a water pistol) over to him, now!
The villain was dumbfounded: His plans were crossed, and how!
Jackal lost his courage, knowing he'd been rumbled.
Coyote (Jackal's cohort) then tried to run, but tumbled.
Both were seized by all the guests and frog-marched through the gate,
Then told they had to leave at once, or suffer some dire fate!
The gruesome twosome took off quick, stumbling as they ran.
All the foxes stood and laughed, like only foxes can.
And so, on went the party — foxes having fun!
They drank and sang all through the night, every single one!

I wrote this after stumbling upon an article about foxes. I was surprised to
learn that there are 23 different types of fox, and I thought I'd like to
write a narrative poem, naming a few of them. So, here it is: A fun, fantasy
tale for children everywhere (including the inner child in every adult!)
